The program followed a blended learning format combining consultation appointments, education materials, and assignments through the virtual learning environment of the EDIH-Thuringia marketplace. Participants devoted an average of 2.5 hours per week to the coursework.
Offered as a free pilot phase for professionals in the public and private transportation sectors, the program aimed to provide a foundational understanding of mobility data. It covered fundamentals, potentials, examples, and best practices, guiding participants through their first data publication. Key issues included international and national political strategies, the legal framework of the forthcoming German Mobility Data Act, and the basics of open data and mobility data. Furthermore, the curriculum emphasized data quality and reusability. In the final tutorials, participants applied their knowledge to research and publish data on the German National Access Point, Mobilithek.
Christopher Rieckhoff, an employee of the municipal enterprise Stadtwirtschaft Weimar GmbH, shared the following feedback: “In the Open Mobility Data course, we participants were provided with a lot of helpful, practical information on mobility data within 10 weeks. I can give a very clear recommendation for the training course to anyone who wants to expand and consolidate their understanding of mobility data, including the legal framework.”
We thank all the participants for their interest and collaboration in the Open Mobility Data education program. We would like to acknowledge the financial support of the European Commission through the EDIH initiative.
