Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) is a consortium of entities, led by Forum Oceano (FO), Portugal’s Blue Economy Cluster (recognized as such by the Ministry of Economy and Sea, under the EU’s industrial clusters policy). PBDH will contribute significantly for the establishment of a strategic, competitive, and sustainable digital blue industry services in Portugal, a member state that represents 11% of EU’s EEZ and has the 3rd biggest EU EEZ, located in the North Atlantic Ocean. A sustainable and digitised blue economy is key for EU to achieve climate mitigation and adaptation goals in energy, food, transport, trade, and tourism, while augmenting its self-sufficiency in an open way. PBDH will be an innovation ecosystem that accelerates the twin digital and green transformation of SMEs, small mid-caps and public sector organisations of the Portuguese blue economy sectors (in accordance with the EC’s integrated maritime policy [IMP] approach), at a national level (including Madeira and Azores Outermost Regions). This goal will be achieved by accelerating the use of AI and Blockchain based technologies for catalysing the adoption of sustainable business models. PBDH will give an important contribution for EU’s resilience, digital sovereignty and strategic autonomy, because in its action, it will be able to take advantage of ocean data harvesting services by having access to 22% of EU’s digital connectivity infrastructure that will cross through Portugal’s EEZ until 2025, which final connection will be in the Port of Sines. PBDH is a consortium of 17 full partners, complemented with over 30 entities in a Suppliers Club.
