Background Information:

Standardisation of key emerging technologies (including AI, Data, Cyber Security, IoT, Quantum etc) and related products and services is a critical enabler for the digital, green and resilient transformation of the European economy and society over the coming years.  Hence, in February 2022, the EU launched a new European Standardization Strategy with a focus on the systematic use of standardisation as a powerful innovation and scaling platform for European industry, particularly SMEs and Start-ups.

Standards help SMEs access global markets by building customer trust and confidence in their new innovations - enabling the accelerated mass-market diffusion and adoption of related SME products and services across all sectors.  Understanding the existing standards landscape also ensures that SMEs can innovate on top of state-of-the-art standards, thereby avoiding ‘reinventing the wheel’ and ensuring their products and services are market-ready and scalable across international markets.
