EU Matchmaking Event on sustainable AI

CAIRNE and sustAIn.brussels are organising a matchmaking event bringing together representatives of SMEs, academia, R&D institutions, NCP’s, funding agencies and other digital innovation hubs. 

The event will host three short info sessions on various topics followed by 1-1 matchmaking sessions. The info sessions and 1-1 meetings will be facilitated by this platform, but held in person at BeCental in Brussels on November 19th. Additional 1-1 sessions will be possible online via the platform on November 20th.

The platform will open for bookings of 1-1 meetings two weeks prior to the event to facilitate simultaneous engagement by the participants.

  • 13:35 - 14:05, Session 1: Keynote on sustainable AI with Prof Dr. Erik Mannens (imec / IDLab Antwerp) 

    This session will feature a keynote talk and discussion by Erik Mannens, an expert from a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) and academic institution. The focus will be on the role of Sustainable AI as a key success factor for companies and in the European Union’s (EU) digital transformation. 

    During the Q&A, we will explore how sustainable AI practices are incorporated into EU proposals and projects, discussing their influence on driving innovation, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining competitiveness. This session will help you understand the value of integrating sustainability into AI projects and provide insights on how to emphasize these elements when crafting EU proposals. 

  • 14:05 - 14:35, Session 2: Panel on EU Digital Europe Program Funding 

    This session will dive into the EU Digital Europe program and its funding mechanisms. Representatives from funding agencies will share their experiences and provide insights into the "ins and outs" of applying for this funding, including key lessons learned from previous cycles. 

    Attendees will gain an understanding of how to successfully apply for funding, including tips on eligibility, proposal requirements, evaluation criteria, and how to avoid common pitfalls. This session is particularly valuable for organizations seeking to understand the nuances of EU funding processes. 

  • 14:35 - 14:45, Short Break 

  • 14:45 – 15:15, Session 3: Added Value for SMEs in EU Research and Innovation Programs 

    This session will focus on the benefits for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) participating in EU-funded research and innovation programs, particularly in the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programs. 

    Testimonials from companies across Europe will offer firsthand insights into their experiences with these programs. The speakers will share success stories, challenges faced, and how participation in EU projects has impacted their businesses. This session is designed to encourage SMEs to explore opportunities in these funding programs. 

  • 15:15 - 15:25, Short Break 

  • 15:25-17:30, 1-1 matchmaking sessions

    This part of the event will be dedicated to one-on-one matchmaking sessions. These are pre-arranged or spontaneous meetings between attendees, providing opportunities for networking, partnership building, and discussing potential collaborations or projects. It’s particularly beneficial for those looking to forge relationships within the EU's innovation and funding ecosystems. 

    Participants can discuss project ideas, funding opportunities, and collaborations with peers, experts, and representatives from academia, industry, or public sectors. The extended time allows for multiple meetings, fostering deeper connections.
