EU policy on Cybersecurity and implications for the EDIH network

Cybersecurity is a core element of the European Union's digital strategy, with several ongoing initiatives that can significantly impact the network of European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) and their customers, including companies and public sector organisations.

One key initiative is the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) proposal, which aims to enhance the EU's cyber resilience, particularly supporting SMEs. This proposal, along with legislative, standardisation, and organisational aspects, involves crucial roles for National Coordination Centres (NCCs) and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC) (see NCCs).

Objectives of the Initiative:

1. Information Dissemination:

• Provide comprehensive information on the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) proposal.

• Outline the main building blocks for preparing its implementation, particularly the support needed for SMEs.

2. Stakeholder Engagement:

• Facilitate discussions with EDIHs and National Coordination Centres (NCCs) to understand their operations and how they can contribute to CRA implementation.

3. Funding Opportunities:

• Present relevant funding opportunities for CRA implementation under the topic "DIGITAL-ECCC-2023-DEPLOY-CYBER-04," including:

  • CYBER-04-SUPPORT-ASSIST: Preparedness Support and Mutual Assistance

  • CYBER-04-CIVIL-DEFENCE: Coordination Between the Cybersecurity Civilian and Defence Spheres

  • CYBER-04-STANDARDISATION: Standardisation in the Area of Cybersecurity

  • CYBER-04-EULEGISLATION: Support for Implementation of EU Legislation on Cybersecurity and National Cybersecurity Strategies

4. Priority Identification:

• Identify priority topics and needs for micro and small enterprises, which could be explored in more detail at potential follow-up events.
