Description

Objectives

The construction sector is one of the least digitalised sectors. This is attributed to its fragmented adoption of digitalisation, a lag in digital transformation compared to other sectors and to low digital skills amongst the workforce. Nevertheless, digital transformation could lead to 14-15% gains in productivity and 4-6% cost reductions (McKinsley Global Institute), while also helping to reach the European targets regarding climate neutrality. There is therefore an urgent need to combine efforts and support construction companies in their digital transformation.

The thematic working group on construction is made of a dynamic group of EDIHs that have agreed to collaborate and create added value for their companies by accessing and sharing their experience, know-how and tools at the EU level. The goal is to provide companies with the most appropriate support, increase their knowledge on digital applications and services, provide better access to regional, national and European funding and enhance their digital maturity.

More specifically, members of this thematic working group will communicate about the challenges encountered for the construction sector in their respective countries, as well as their strategies, tools and services to address these issues. Best practices will be discussed, to identify opportunities that could be applied in other countries. This also includes the use of the DMA tool and its implementation for the construction sector. The EDIHs will also identify and share EU funding opportunities, and boost new collaborations among EDIHs stakeholders. Finally, the working group will foster links to other EU and local initiatives dedicated to the construction sector.
